Goodbye 2025, Hello 2026

2025 was a year filled to the brim. It seemed we rarely stopped long enough to come up for air. The gardens were tidied up and readied in January and February due to the mild weather, then, Mother Nature threw a series of curve-balls. Plantings grew like mad then were stalled as temperatures fluctuated. Our best producing crops were potatoes, kale, kohlrabi, fennel, collards, and broad beans. Bush beans, peas, and pole beans all flopped. With our Southern exposure, lettuce, spinach, and several other crops aren’t worth planting as they either wilt or bolt in the heat.

As gardeners, we know learning is a journey, and learning what grows best/where, is a process. We have ideas for 2026 which we hope to share with you!

The animals as usual kept us on our toes. The two goats, Willow and Wren, both needed help kidding, but once on the ground, the kids didn’t look back. Little mischief-makers! By the time August rolled around, anything garden-wise went out the window because life was all about milk, and making cheese. We found a used wine fridge to use as a cheese cave and perfected a hard cheese favourite; a Greek cheese called Kefalotyri. We also made endless batches of rich, delicious yoghurt.

The ducks, as usual, were the comedians and kept us grounded when we felt life was getting too chaotic. We firmly believe it’s impossible to be cranky around a duck! Dawg kept a watchful eye on them – and they on him!

All in all, 2025 sped by – a year of weekend markets selling our organic goat milk soap, weekdays filled with processing milk, making soap, and giving reflexology sessions to clients. We rarely got into the gardens – something we hope to change for 2026.

Speaking of which, we don’t have massive plans for 2026 but hope to streamline things. We’re delegating specific days and times to our different activities in the hope we’ll have more free time to garden, sit and enjoy a good book, take lovely walks with Dawg, and simply enjoy what we’ve created here at Point 6 Acre. It’s a special place!

You might have noticed a Reflexology tab has been added to the website. This dovetails with what we mentioned above, streamlining. Getting rid of extraneous pages on other sites and combining it here. It may or may not be of interest to you.

As always, we’re happy when you ask us questions about how we farm on .6 acre of land.

At the moment we don’t have chickens but are contemplating raising a small number (25 or so) meat birds in the Spring. The price per chick went up dramatically this year and we’re hoping the price at least stays the same. The price of feed, both grain and alfalfa went up, so we’re scaling things to manageable proportions – at least that’s the plan. Part of it is to breed and milk one goat in 2026. Milking two goats this year meant we had litres of milk in the freezer in record time. All saved for future use in our soap or for our consumption.

We’ll attach a slideshow here for you to get a glimpse into our world of 2025.

We wish you only good things for 2026!
