Abysmal! Both 2024 and 2025 we had the best intentions for great veggie garden success. All the prep work was done, things looked beautiful and then heat and drought. We managed to get some irrigation installed but to be honest, we reach a point in the summer when decisions need to be made: water the gardens, or have water available for the animals and the home. We choose the latter. Animals and ourselves come first.
On our wish-list are at least two cisterns or several IBC totes linked together for rainwater catchment off the roof of both the house, and the small barn. Also, we hope to complete the irrigation to the veggie beds. Fingers crossed 2026 is more productive!

You are definitely on track with the cistern idea – the years gave been drier lately, with more monsoon type rains – if you can catch any of it, perfect!
